I just stumbled upon this too late. A vigil was held tonight for Brandi, a 37 year old Transwoman. Brandi was shot in Oakland, California. I haven't been able to find out more about the vigil. I will try and see if we can have another a week from her death so we can get attention focused on this all too IGNORED tragedy. A medic from Occupy Oakland rendered assistance.
That so many Transgender People die violent deaths at the hands of others and it isn't reported more in the media needs to change.
The Mercury identified her as a person. Which is an improvement.:
The third death occurred around 5:45 a.m., when a person was shot to death at the corner of 13th and Franklin streets, a block from the Burger King where the Saturday incident occurred.
Police responding to reports of shots fired saw the person lying in the roadway, outside another restaurant that apparently had some of its windows shattered by gunfire. The shooting victim, identified as a 37-year-old Hayward resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's name was withheld while police tried to contact family members. Investigators said the individual had been in a verbal confrontation before the shooting.
Police shut down Franklin Street between 12th and 14th streets and 13th Street between Broadway and Franklin while conducting the investigation.
Of course responses from the community that is the focus of this Terrorism is important.
