|The Daily Bucket is a place where we post and exchange our observations about what is happening in the natural world in our neighborhood. Bugs, buds, birds - each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
Don't forget that this is participatory, but first let's hop the falling leaves for more news from Castro Valley.

Very late fledges
Yesterday I saw what looked like a Goldfince fledgling begging and being fed by its parent (they were both on a thistle sock at the time). When I told my wife she stated that she had seen some seeming fledgling geeding the day before. I do not recall fledges so late before. It makes me wonder about some of the "somewhat off" chickadees I've seen this week too.
My Redbuds, meanwhile, are dropping noticeable quantities of leaves and their leaves are turning color in appreciable numbers. My Apricot, however, shows no signs of similar behavior.
Please post your nature observations along with their location in the comments. Thank you.
