Help me out, I just don't understand...

I've listened to the President's State of the Union speech. And then, Buddha help me, I listened to the various Republican responses.

Is it just me, or were they responding to a speech he didn't actually give? It almost feels like they were slipped copies of a fake speech, and built their responses off of that.
