And while we are thanking Senator Kent Conrad for saying that Social Security should be off the table, let's keep telling the White House that we'll have the President's back on taxes and that we want him to keep Social Security off the table for the fiscal slope negotiations. And let's also expand our pressure to Patty Murray so she knows that we want Social Security off the table and since she will very likely be the next Budget Committee Chair(since the current chair is Conrad and he's retiring).
K.I.S.S Talking Points:
For Kent Conrad: (for those in ND) Please tell Senator Conrad that this proud North Dakotan thanks him for saying that Social Security should not be part of any Grand Bargain. As a North Dakotan, Social Security is very important to me, and I am proud that Senator Conrad stands with me on this issue.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to me, and have a great day. (If they ask for address and info, you should give it)
For Kent Conrad(for those not in ND, but want to sent an e-mail message)
Dear Senator Conrad,
Thank you for standing up for me by saying that Social Security should not be a part of the "fiscal cliff" negotiations. Although I don't live in North Dakota, I will hope that my elected representatives follow your lead and also that of Senator Harry Reid. I will remember those who stood by me when I next go into the voting booth.
I also want to wish you a happy holiday season, and I thank you in advance for reading my e-mail
Sincerely
[your name here]
For Patty Murray:
Please tell Senator Murray that I agree with Senators Reid and Conrad that Social Security should be off the table in the upcoming "fiscal cliff" talks. The President has a clear mandate that the voters gave him to slightly raise taxes on those making over $250,000 and he has a mandate to not touch Social Security.
And please let Senator Murray know that as a proud Washingtonian, Social Security is a very important issue to me. and I will remember who stood up for me when I next go into the voting booth. So please, make sure that Social Security is off the table in the fiscal negotiations. I feel very strongly that raising the eligibility age, messing around with the COLA, or any benefit cut is the wrong course of action.
Thank you for listening to my concerns and have a nice day. (also give address and such if they ask for it)
To The White House:
Please tell the President that Social Security is a very important issue to me, and that I voted for his re-election so that Social Security could be protected by the attacks of Wall Street under the guise of "Fix the Debt". Senators Reid and Conrad are right that Social Security needs to be off the table concerning the "fiscal cliff". Benefit cuts or raising the eligibility age is not what I voted for.
Please let the President know that I will back him up on his plan to raise taxes by $1.6 Trillion on the wealthiest Americans. Please tell him that I will work hard to make sure he has support if he leaves Social Security alone in these upcoming fiscal negotiations.
Thank you for listening to my concerns and have a good day.
