People for the American Way's Right Wing Watch has uncovered a pretty interesting tidbit about Peter Brimelow, the founder of prominent hate site VDARE. Seems that he has a day job as a regular columnist for MarketWatch, the financial news Website.
Brimelow’s MarketWatch column focuses on the stock market, gold prices and economic forecasting, and it must be said that Brimelow was once a full-time financial journalist. In fact, he was as an editor for years at Fortune, Forbes, Influence and the Financial Post and served as economic counsel for Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT). But in the early 90s he transitioned from business to politics, serving as senior editor at National Review, and by the late 90s he was a professional white nationalist.
According to
Brimelow's bio on Wikipedia, he has written for MarketWatch since 2002, back when CBS was part-owner. This was well after National Review cashiered him in 1998 for his open and unashamed racism. While Brimelow makes no mention of his political writing (his
bio there highlights his past as an editor for Barron's, Fortune and Forbes), it's hard not to believe his bosses at Dow Jones don't know that Brimelow writes for a site that plays host to
eugenicists and
anti-Semites, and has been labeled as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
When LA Observed's Mark Lacter and Business Insider's Joe Wiesenthal independently got wind that Brimelow was hosting a seminar at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference, they asked MarketWatch why it was employing a white supremacist as a columnist. That was back in February--and since then, no word at all.
This cannot stand, folks. Drop MarketWatch a line at newsroom at marketwatch dot com and tell them to fire Brimelow.
