This is a very short, and very paranoid diary.
I have noticed over the last few months that in the comments sections of many online versions of publications, after any article critical of Mitt Romney, there is always a large number of comments disagreeing and repeating fairly similar talking points.
Also, when President Obama announced his suspension of deportations of undocumented immigrant young people who are in this country through no fault of their own, the local public radio station, WNYC had a call in asking what immigrants thought about the program.
The reaction was overwhelmingly negative, which was weird. Then a Latina woman from Westchester County called in, excoriating the president's policy as just politics, but couldn't explain what immigration policy she would like to see. Then even more weirdly, she slipped up and said, there are lots of Hispanic Mormons like her in her community. I don't want to disparage any racial, ethnic or religious group, but it sounded like she had her marching orders from Salt Lake City.
So today's big story is the leaked tapes, which were publicized through Mother Jones magazine. If you look at the comments on their website, the comments are OVERWHELMINGLY in favor of Mitt Romney and condemning President Obama.
And I'm like, wait, wot? wot the fug? The vast majority of people commenting on Mother Jones are supporting Mitt Romney and excoriating President Obama?
I check out New York Magazine and Jonathan Chait's article on the video clips and it's the same talking points. Same with articles critical of Romney in the Guardian of London and many other left progressive outlets.
Well, let me just say:
