Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Birthertown)
One of the biggest problems with deciding precisely which of the 230+ Republican members of the House is the most depressing single example of the steady decay of humanity is that new challengers keep appearing. I never paid much attention to newly minted Oklahoma Rep. Markwayne Mullin before, when filling out the big bingo card of wacky Republicans; I see now that may have been a mistake
During a town hall meeting Thursday afternoon, Mullin fielded a question from the self-professed “Birther Princess”. The woman presented him with documents — which he repeatedly refused to take — from Maricopa County (AZ) Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s “Cold Case Posse”, which investigated whether Obama had forged his birth certificate in order to run for president. (He had, they determined, in a surprise to no one.)
Oh, gawd. It's getting to the point where everybody's the Princess of Something. I'd like to see her
paperwork, because I'm pretty darn sure she's not actually Birther royalty at all.
Rep. Markwayne Mullin, however, lets Princess Yapsalot down gently. He too is a member of the Birther family, he assures her, but apparently the magical statute of limitations has run out on proving that Obama is a secret Manchurian Candidate sent from Kenya to establish Muslim something-something-something with the help of old Hawaiian newspaper editors, so all she and he and little Sheriff Joe Arpaio of the Birther Shire can do about it is sigh and "move on."
"I believe what you’re saying and I don’t support this president whatsoever. But ma’am, we lost November 6th. We had the opportunity to get another president in there. […] If the rest of the American people thought that was a big enough issue which, I thought it probably would’ve been. Who would’ve thought we would ever actually be questioning if we had a natural-born president being president? Who would’ve ever thought that we’d actually be there? [...] So when I say we lost the argument, we lost that argument. Now let’s move on to some other issues. I believe it’s still there, but my God if we didn’t prove it the first four years, what do you think the chances are now?"
These are the people who we keep putting into office. It's no wonder we can't keep the government running. At this point I'm only surprised Steve Stockman and Louie Gohmert haven't personally burned the Capitol to the ground after one of their closet "let's see how many lit matches we can stick up our noses at one time" games goes horribly wrong.
Alright, Markwayne, you've made the very, very long Republican crackpot list. Go on, impress us.
