Oh really?

With Wendy Davis officially in the race for governor, Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott is wasting no time on the campaign trail talking about reasons women should support him. Davis burst on the political scene with a filibuster against an abortion-restriction bill. Democrats say there’s a Republican war against women. They cite GOP policies on education, health care, abortion and equal pay. Davis’ filibuster brought thousands of supporters, many of them women, to the Capitol where a rowdy group of abortion-rights advocates shut down the Texas Senate. GOP frontrunner Abbott opposes abortion and has said he is against all exceptions but to save the life of the woman, although he has hedged more recently on answering a question about exceptions. He also opposes expansion of Medicaid and health care under Obamacare, which would benefit many poor women with children. On Tuesday, he told supporters in El Paso that he’s the candidate Texas women should support in the governor’s race next year.
“Women are going to be a powerful voice in this election,” Abbott said. “I’m proud to say there is nobody in the state of Texas who has done more to fight to help women than I have in the past decade.” The El Paso Times reports that Abbott pointed to his work as attorney general in fighting domestic violence, human trafficking and collecting $27 billion in child support. - Dallas News, 10/9/13
More below the fold.
Ok, lets take a little closer look at Abbott's record on women's issues, shall we?

There was that time he compared Planned Parenthood to a terrorist organization, because nothing helps women more than defunding their health care.
There was that time he sued the Obama administration over the contraception mandate because birth control makes Jesus cry.
There was that time one of his supporters tweeted that he “would absolutely demolish idiot @WendyDavisTexas in Gov race” and teach “Retard Barbie” a lesson, and instead of feministsplaining that Harvard-educated Wendy Davis is neither an idiot nor a retard nor a Barbie, he tweeted back “thanks for your support.”
There was that time one of his top advisers, Dave Carney, tweeted that Wendy Davis is “too Stupid” to be governor, and Abbott immediately and publicly shamed his adviser and insisted that he does not hold that view and demanded that Carney apologize and — just kidding! Neither Abbott nor his campaign had any response. - Wonkette, 10/9/13
This is the type of bull shit we will be dealing with all the way until next year. But the fact that Abbott is trying to reach out to women voters early shows he's nervous about going up against Wendy Davis (D. TX) and he can't solely rely on the good ol' boys club to carry him to victory. So we will need to get ready for whatever lies and nonsense Abbott will throw to dupe voters. Meanwhile, Davis has been out on the campaign trail introducing herself to the voters. She was in San Antonio recently meeting with wounded troops:

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis explored San Antonio for a second day on Tuesday, meeting with veterans and quietly visiting military facilities that care for wounded troops and their families.
The state senator from Fort Worth said she was “blown away” by her private tour of the Center for the Intrepid, part of the San Antonio Military Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. She observed rehabilitation efforts at a model facility she'd heard about for years.
Davis has served for six years on the Texas Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs and Military Installations, which is chaired by a possible running mate, state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, who is considering a race for lieutenant governor. - My San Antonio, 10/9/13
While in San Antonio, she picked up a big endorsement:

Four days into her 2014 Democratic quest for governor, state Sen. Wendy Davis of Fort Worth stumped in San Antonio on Monday, collecting the endorsement of Mayor Julián Castro and mingling with phone bank volunteers from Battleground Texas.
“Today I am very proud to stand here with Sen. Davis and to endorse her for governor of Texas,” Castro said.
“Wendy is such an impressive candidate whose values reflect the values of all Texans — hard work, strong faith and great aspirations,” Castro said. “It wasn't the right time for me (to run), but I'm so happy that Sen. Davis will be our next governor.” - My San Antonio, 10/7/13
Hopefully Castro will be able to help out with getting Latinos out to the polls for Davis. Davis is the best choice for Texas' rich and growing Latino population:

The wildcard in all this is the Latino vote. There are enough potential Latino votes to turn Texas blue. But in order for this to happen, Latinos have to be convinced to go to the polls. This is not as easy as it sounds. Latinos in Texas have a reputation for not voting.
Internal Democratic voter data show that in South Texas alone, the state's region with highest percentage of Hispanics, there are about 360,000 Latinos who are registered to vote but have not voted or voted in only one of the past three general elections. The Texas Democratic Party predicted that the vast majority -- somewhere near 330,000 -- would have cast their votes for Democratic candidates in 2012, had they been convinced to show up at the polls.
In the overall big picture, South Texas voters are a considerably important chunk of the 2.1 million Latinos registered to vote statewide who've cast ballots in at least one of the past three election cycles, especially when you consider that 2010 Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White lost to Governor Rick Perry by about 600,000 votes. - Burnt Orange Report, 10/8/13
I'm pretty pumped about Davis' candidacy and I'm sure you are too. If you would like to donate or get involved with Davis' campaign, you can do so here:
