How's that "repeal" thing going for you guys, Republicans?

“I’ve always felt that people should either get some type of health care options, or pay for it with a nice competitive fee. That’s all great. I believe it in my heart. In terms of preexisting conditions, catastrophic coverage, covering kids — whatever we want to do, we can do it. As a matter of fact, in New Hampshire, I would encourage everybody to do a New Hampshire plan that works for New Hamphsire, that deals with individual freedoms, and doesn’t have mandates put on by bureaucrats in Washington….a plan that is good for New Hampshire…can include the Medicaid expansion folks who need that care and coverage.”
Whatever happened to "repeal"? It was simple. It was easy. It was clean. Now we get whatever the hell that was, above.
Sen. Rob Portman:
Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) struggled to articulate a credible GOP alternative to the Affordable Care Act during an appearance on Fox News Monday morning, promising only to replace President Obama’s health care reform with “legislation that does give people more opportunities” and “better ideas.”
Once upon a time, "repeal" is all anyone needed. Again, it was clean, simple, and easy. Now, even Fox News is demanding an alternative. And for their part, Republicans can't do better than promise "better ideas" without offering up any actual ideas, better or otherwise. And of course, there was Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, in the House leadership,
giving up on "repeal." Maybe that's why we're seeing this today:
We've talked a great deal about the law's improving numbers, and yet
another poll confirms the trend, this one by Democracy Corps, which clocks in at 50-43 in favor of the Democratic position on health care (support current law and improve)
in Republican House districts.
Republicans bet early on opposition to the ACA, and that bet is already looking like a terrible idea. You can almost feel the mojo bleed out of Republicans, their confidence shattered, flailing for an answer to the nation's changing public opinion.
