I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe Republican lobbyist and Virginia GOP Senate nominee Ed Gillespie ought to keep his mouth shut from now on about the minimum wage instead of saying stuff like this:

"A minimum wage job is where you learn to get to work on time. It's where you learn the great feeling at the end of a week of getting that paycheck, of knowing you gave an honest week's work. It's where you learn the social aspects of work," Gillespie said in a video recorded by a Democratic tracker and obtained by the Richmond, Virginia NBC affiliate. "It's where you play on the work softball team or go out for a beer after work."

Actually, working for minimum wage is no picnic, and raising it would impact the income of 1 in 5 workers. But Gillespie is so clueless about those that work minimum wage jobs that he couldn't even state his own position accurately, because even though he told the gathering "I don't support a federally mandated minimum wage," his campaign says that he actually does. Normally, I'd be skeptical of a campaign spin like that, but in this case, it actually seems like at a minimum he doesn't oppose current Federal minimum wage laws. It's just that he thinks $7.25 an hour is plenty generous, because in his world, working for the minimum wage is nothing but a lesson in how to show up on time to work while playing softball and drinking beer in the evenings.
