Kentucky’s Honest Political Ad Campaign for Fake Politician

In the Bluegrass State, voters have a new and unexpected candidate to consider: meet Gil Fulbright... or Phil Gulbright... or Bill Fulbright... or Phillip Mamouf-Wifarts... (he’s not fussy about the name he goes by) who is running for the US Senate.

His political ads are the most honest ever produced, the first of them opening with this appealingly candid introduction:

Hi, I'm Gil Fulbright. The people who run my campaign, they've made this commercial – and I'm in it. This campaign... it’s not about me, it's about crafting a version of me that will appeal to you.

Gil Fulbright, who already has his own website, Facebook page and Twitter account, is the brainchild of Represent.Us, an organization "building a non-partisan movement to end the culture of legalized corruption that has come to define modern politics".

Though their candidate is fake and funny, the campaign Represent.Us is waging against systemic corruption is entirely real and very serious. They chose Kentucky for Gil's candidacy in order to highlight the fact that the race between McConnell and Grimes is on course to cost an unprecedented $100 million.

The organization's team is led by Director, Josh Silver, and backed up by a broad-based board of advisers. These notable advocates for limiting the influence of money in politics include May Day PAC founder and Harvard Law School professor, Lawrence Lessig, 2012 presidential candidate and former Louisiana Gov, Buddy Roemer, Norman Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute and infamous ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The team has already passed the half-way mark in their objective to raise $100,000.

It will be interesting to see what they have planned for the $75,000 and $100,000 goals. With over $58,000 in the coffers already, they’ll reach these goals sooner rather than later.
