Today in the mail I received my "Coal Guns Freedom" Team Mitch bumper sticker. Why did I get it? I'll never know. But I have it.
And it is shockingly stupid.
Thirty years in the U.S. Senate and his campaign has come down to three things:
Coal
Guns
Freedom
Kentucky: This is the McConnell pledge. This is your Coal. Your Guns. Your Freedom.
Coal - The right to die of a debilitating lung disease. And your sons too. And their sons.
All for the empty promise of coal prosperity that Kentucky has chased for 100 years. It never happened. It's not going to happen. And NO coal miner ever dreamed his son would follow his footsteps into the mine.
And as natural gas and other energy sources become cheaper and more accessible while coal becomes more difficult to mine, things are going to change.
Are you going to vote for a candidate that prepares for that change? Who looks forward.
Or for McConnell. Who plays on your fears that Barack Obama is taking away your coal job in the mythical War on Coal. He is lying to you.
Guns - The right to dramatically increase the likelihood of a fatal gun-related accident or suicide in your home.
And for all the talk of "libruls" coming to take your guns, how many of their guns have they taken? I'm waiting . . .
Is Obama going to take them in his third term?
Let's talk straight Kentucky. No one is coming for your guns. And just so you know, having that gun around makes your home more dangerous. Remember that little girl(age 5) that shot and killed her little sister (age 2) in rural Kentucky with a child-friendly (as if there is such a thing) shotgun.
Freedom - You have the right to piss in a cup to earn $7.25 an hour at a shitty on-your-feet hard-ass job. To be told what to do. And do it all without union protections or any chance of advancement. And the right to be fired on the spot. For any reason. Or no reason. Or because you're gay. Or your partner is. Or son.
If you're a woman. The Freedom To Earn Less Than a Man.
What freedoms is McConnell protecting you from? Kentuckians can travel anywhere they want. They can smoke. Drink. Hunt. Swim. Fish. Farm.
Is he going to protect you from Kynect (the Obamacare implementation) in Kentucky that has insured 400,000-plus Kentuckians?
Kentuckians by the way approve of Kynect by a +16 favorability rating.
Obamacare by contrast has -32 favorability rating.
They are the same thing Kentucky.
And you retain the freedom to be vote against your self interest.
Because a charlatan and a political grifter is lying to you. And McConnell is doing it with dark money. He is selling you "Guns Coal Freedom" with $5,000,000 via the Kentucky Opportunity Coalition. It has spent that much in 2014. All on negative ads. All dark money. And I didn't even mention his campaign manager (Jesse Benton) and his involvement in an illegal bribery scheme.
And despite his millions in dark money, he still is trying to raise it with his Bumper Sticker Acceptance Form. Can you believe this? I think I send it back damaged.
Kentucky gets to choose in November.
They seem poised to be swindled again.
