Elisabeth Hasselbeck did her patriotic duty by comparing the NFL's domestic violence scandal to Benghazi.
"Imagine if everyone that asked for transparency in the NFL demanded that same transparency in our government," the "Fox and Friends" morning show host tweeted Tuesday.
Hasselbeck's tweet was quickly blasted by critics who mocked her for comparing the two unrelated events.
But the right-leaning TV host defended herself in another tweet, claiming that making the comparison was actually the patriotic thing to do: "We spoke w/the mom whose son was killed and men there that night. Inserting #Benghazi — is not ridiculous — IT IS AN #HONOR."

Sean Hannity defended NFL player Adrian Peterson's use of corporal punishment.
Hannity explained that he was hit by his father as a child, and he turned out just fine.
"I got hit with a strap. Bam, bam, bam. And I have never been to a shrink. I will tell you that I deserved it," he said. [...]
Hannity then took off his belt to demonstrate the technique.
He asked the panelists on his show if people should always be arrested if they use a switch, which Peterson allegedly used on his son. He then asked about his own father.
"So my father should have been arrested based on today's standards?" he asked.
When two panelists said "yes" and "maybe," Hannity responded, "That's nuts."
And, in tangentially-related news...
Sarah Palin took pride in her daughter Bristol's brawling abilities.
"I love my Bristol! My straight-shooter is one of the strongest young women you'll ever meet. I have to say this as a proud mama: right up there with their work ethic and heart for those less fortunate, my kids' defense of family makes my heart soar!" Palin said Friday in a post that was accompanied by several family photos, including one of Bristol firing a gun.
"As you can imagine, they and my extended family have experienced so many things (liberal media-driven) that may have crushed others without a strong foundation of faith, and I'm thankful for our friends' prayer shield that surrounds them, allowing faith to remain their anchor."
Only the strong survive.
