Maybe to a small extent that is true. Perhaps she was not properly trained on email protocols, or even just confused about what could go to which server. But she can't apologize. Everyone thought Donald Trump was going to be forced to apologize, and it seems the more he flips the bird at PC, the better he does. Now he is starting to garner overall support from the electorate, and this is a major problem.
So what should Hillary have done? It doesn't make a can of Coke's worth of difference.
And this is where some rookies and novices need some cold water splashed on their noggins.
When you have a media, particularly the NY Times, determined to destroy you, this is how it works: YOU can personally, pull up onto a burning bus from a Catholic school and save half of the children on the bus. No-I will give you even ALL of the children. Unfortunately, in your efforts to save the children, you overlook one passenger and Sister Mary the bus driver perishes.
No matter-you SAVED the children. Right? Imagine your horror when Maureen O' Dowd greets you with this NYT headline-"Catholic School Bus Driver Dies In Wreck; Democratic Candidate YOU Offers No Aid TO Her."
For good measure, "In this AP file photo dated such and such Democratic Candidate YOU stands with the victims of school bus crash as Sister Mary dies in aftermath."
FYYYYYUUUUUCK !
This is how it works. Now you can say, "Hillary can't be our candidate, her unfavorables are too high!" OK. Let's bring in Bern. What do we have on the Bern? Plenty, I'm sure. "But wait, ol 'Bern only has a few traffic tickets, no big deal!" No no. That is not how it works. We can do this one of two ways-"The Clean Candidate-Bernie's Traffic Tickets And Not Much Else,"-call this a puff piece.
Or we can let Salena Zito get a hold of a few speeding tickets, and let her submit this as a special to the NYT-"Extensive Investigation Reveals Bernie Sanders Disregard For Traffic Safety Laws!"
Think months of that stupid story would have no effect? The well of ignorance in the American electorate has no bottom. We are quite frankly full of stupid people in this country. It will always be something, against somebody, until we learn how to fight back. Now if we have been paying attention, we see that political correctness and the media are often viewed as one enemy-and Trump has successfully united a good portion of voters around the common enemy that is the media. This is a secret to his success.
What is the solution? Stop feeding trolls. Don't do campaign ads with clarifications. Don't re-message the previous message with press conferences. Don't leave more crumbs for scavengers to exploit.
What is Hillary's, or any Democratic candidate's solution?
Pour a nice warm cup of shut the fuck up. Flip off the press, and focus on the issues. At this point, Hill couldn't be harmed by saying about the press and these emails, "This is about making sure real change for the middle class is derailed. I personally think they (the press) are part of the problem-and LIKE IT THAT WAY." If she did you might be surprised how fast it goes away, or at least the tables get turned.
But we have no perfect candidate, and whoever gets the nod, will be torn apart too. In a knife fight, learning how not to defend against a femoral artery wound is a much better solution than constantly staunching the bleeding. We should know this at this point. I support Hill because I am loyal, her and her Husband have made a positive difference, and I believe she is qualified. So if Tumulty, or O'Dowd, or Douthat want to swing the switchblade of ink, I am right by her side.
We ALL should be. Even if you are voting for Bern, we ALL should be. Because when they are done with your opponent-their next target is you.
