A new Public Policy Polling poll from Pennsylvania released today has a surprising result and one that runs counter to the claim that Bernie Sanders can't appeal to African-American voters for various reasons.
Hillary Clinton leads in the state 40% to Sanders's 22%, but when you break the results down by race Sanders is actually doing better among African-Americans than he is among whites.
Among whites, Clinton leads Sanders 42-20, but among African-Americans she leads 38-19. If you discount the margin of error of around 5%, this means that Clinton is beating Sanders by 22 points among whites but only 19 points among African-Americans.
42% of African-American respondents were not sure enough about Bernie to form an opinion as to his favorability. Pennsylvania is about 11% African-American, just shy of the national 12%. Of those polled, 18% were African-American.
