(as distinct from the recent kindergarten lunch-table food fights).
Forget Hillary v Sanders. Forget all the others, individually. O'Malley came the closest to nailing at the end. Just think about what we heard tonight, about the substantive arguments, about the respectful back-and-forth that seemed less concerned about scoring point and more about finding the truth, and compare it to the demeanor and substance (if I can call it that) of the Republican debates. This is the best argument for more Democratic debates. The Republicans have had the stage all to themselves, so far, and the contrast shown tonight, as well as the articulation of the Democratic values and positions, was sorely needed.
It's too bad we have such a sorry excuse for a national press. They will feel it necessary, out of fear or ignorance or both, to pretend a non-existent equivalence. We can only hope that the independents and the undecided are really paying attention.
