At issue is the idea that representative bodies must be composed of the same percentages of groups as the population represented
The results had been withheld immediately after the election because the principal felt that the winners weren't diverse enough.
We've learned that the majority of the winners were white, despite the fact that the student body is 80% students of color.
Nontheless, the principal is insisting this isn't an attempt to dictate the outcome of a democratic election.
“We’re not nullifying the election, we’re not cancelling the election and we’re not saying this didn’t count,” Van Haren said.
Nowhere is it alleged that there were election irregularities. Simply that the outcome didn't match up to the demographics of the school population.
Van Haren defends her decision, saying: "“That is concerning to me because as principal I want to make sure all voices are heard from all backgrounds.”
National media outlets on the Right, such as National Review are reflecting on the "destroy the village in order to save it" nature of that thinking:
(Irony: All students did have the opportunity to make their voices heard through voting — and refusing to report those results seems more like making sure that they’re not heard.)
...
Principal Van Haren told KTVU that the school might consider adding positions just so the student council looks more like what she would like it to look like. You know, because student voices are so important.

Do we, as progressives,
really want to go there? Leaving aside the racist idea that "X can only be represented by X", isn't rejecting the results of a free and democratic process because they don't match a "preferred" outcome TEAOP thinking?
That way lies government shutdowns. That way lies blocked appointments. That way lies madness.
We should be better than this.
