I have an idea...
Ben Carson
said Sunday on
Meet The Press that he wants
Roe v. Wade overturned "
the right way," which means appointing judges based on their record of interpretation of the constitution. And no, he doesn't care if the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest.
CHUCK TODD: Definitively, do you want to see Roe v. Wade overturned?
DR. BEN CARSON: Ultimately, I would love to see it overturned. [...]
CHUCK TODD: Rape and incest?
DR. BEN CARSON: Rape and incest, I would not be in favor of killing a baby because the baby came about in that way. And all you have to do is go and look up the many stories of people who have led very useful lives who were the result of rape or incest.
This is apparently a cache of stories that just hasn't been very well-publicized to date.
Carson also declared himself a "reasonable person" during the interview because he would be open to discussing an exception based on life-threatening circumstances for the mother.
Carson then demonstrated his powers of reason by comparing slavery to abortion.
During slavery, a lot of the slave owners thought that they had the right to do whatever they wanted to that slave. Anything that they chose to do. And, you know, what if the abolitionist had said, you know, "I don't believe in slavery. I think it's wrong. But you guys do whatever you want to do"? Where would we be?
Let's just say we differ on the "
reasonable" part. Anyway, Carson is now
riding high in Iowa. Surely, the fundies will be rapturous over these latest bits of wisdom.
