Immigration activists in the offices of GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions
Immigration activists are presently staging protests in 35-plus "Hardline Republican" congressional offices on the Hill, according to a press release from the Alliance for Citizenship. From the release:
Immigrant activists and allies call on Congress to stop the attacks and come up with a real solution for our broken immigration system
Since Republicans took charge of both the House and Senate, their only attempt to govern has been to hold multiple votes attacking immigrant families and to repeal the President’s immigration action.
Right now, hundreds of activists are protesting inside the Capitol Hill offices of Republican 2016 hopefuls, leadership, and outspoken anti-immigrant leaders.
"Republicans have engaged in ceaseless attacks on hardworking immigrant families,” said CASA de Maryland President Gustavo Torres. “When our children vote in 2016 they will not forget the party that sought to destroy their parents."
The action is unfolding on Twitter and Facebook under the hashtag #GOPMoveOver. In at least some of the cases, the activists appear to be demanding to meet with congressional members before they leave. They are also chanting—so not necessarily a traditional sit-in, in that sense.
This story is still developing.
