Two weeks ago we had our inaugural Democratic Primary
straw poll. The results:
Bernie Sanders: 69%
Hillary Clinton: 24
Martin O'Malley: 2
No Freakin' Clue: 2
Other: 1
Sanders's high level of support around here is noteworthy. Daily Kos represents the activist base, and that activist base appreciates everything Sanders has stood for throughout his career. Also interesting is the shockingly small number of people who aren't choosing the top two—just five percent. It's a bifurcated race, with little room for anyone else (read: O'Malley) to make a mark.
So we'll conduct these polls every two weeks. I actually don't expect the numbers to change much (if at all) over the rest of the year. Nothing feels fluid. Everything is stratified. Perhaps numbers will change if Clinton or Sanders supporters dominate site newcomers as interest in the race heats up. But candidate switching? Seems quite improbable, doesn't it?
