Story from Ferguson Action, this is amazing.

A woman named Bree Newsome, representing the group Ferguson Action [edit: actually representing "a group of local activists", per Ferguson Action's twitter], climbed the flagpole in front of the South Carolina Statehouse earlier this morning and removed the Confederate flag. She was arrested for her troubles.

The flag stayed down for an hour. It has been replaced (unclear to me by whose order), just in time for the white supremacist ("flag defender") rally that's scheduled to begin a couple of hours from now.

(You want to be thought courageous, Nikki Haley? Here's courage. Bree Newsome did this with her own body and at the cost of her freedom. You can't do it with all the power of the governor's office behind you. Pathetic.)
