The Republican platform committee took time out of its pressing food stamp/junk food discussion Monday to make sure the proposed platform is still firmly rooted in the 20th Century when it comes to LGBT rights. The New York Times obtained an early draft of the heartwarming language:
The data and the facts lead to an inescapable conclusion: that every child deserves a married mom and dad. [...] Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society. For that reason, as explained elsewhere in the platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to states.
But don't worry, professional homo-hater Tony Perkins is going to fix it so no one has to be discriminated against—he successfully introduced a plank supporting the now thoroughly discredited gay conversion therapy.
Perkins and others were reportedly extremely successful in turning back all efforts thus far to moderate the platform on LGBT issues. Igor Bobic has a good write up of Monday’s action.
Oh, and let's not forget transphobia, because transgender Americans are power-hungry egomaniacs who are "determined" to end life as we know it:
