the daily Bucket diary is the spark for our conversation
This may include glorious photographs or scientific information but that isn’t necessary and sometimes too much diary gets in the way of conversation. All that is necessary is your observation. This could be a simple note with or without photos. If you wish to add a photo, Flickr (Creative Commons license) and the DK Image Library (search by Tag or Description) can fill in for the photos you don’t have. But you don’t need to add any photos. All you need is a small idea that kicks off conversation.
All Observations Are Worthy

I often share detailed information and someone else’s photos because that’s my daily life and I’m a lousy photographer. Many of my more scientific Buckets were intended to be stand-alone stories and became a Daily Bucket to fill in the gap when no Bucket was published. OceanDiver wears her camera like a third eye and shows us the northwest corner of the US. PHScott carries an iPhone in his pocket and documents details of his lush subtropical woodland in the far SE US. enhydra lutris reports on plants in his SF Bay area yard each month. That guy whose name is a number usually talks about frogs. His other name is RedwoodMan (RWM) but it should be FrogGuy. Some of us are scientists or work in nature; others live in an apartment and enjoy taking a stroll to see nature.
Phenology is happening everywhere all the time, right where you are
Everyone has something to share and if you get details wrong or don’t know the name of the plant you’ve photographed, that is a spur to our conversations. Bucket beauty often comes more from our discussion in comments than from the diary published. Guess wrong! Ask questions! We have fun figuring out possible answers.
share your observations of earth’s vital signs
Curious about something you saw while walking in the woods? Spot an interesting bug? Wonder what is the name of that flower? Stumble on a rock and found what might be a fossil? This is the place to show your discoveries and marvel in the natural world.
The Daily Bucket is an anarchy
We have no assigned writer each day although sometimes people schedule their diary in advance. Everyone who is a member of the group can publish a Bucket, big or small. We hope to have one Bucket each day (thus the Daily part). If you don’t know how to publish through the group, ask in the comments. We really do wish to hear from you, too. Someone must voluntarily publish a diary every day for our anarchistic group to function.
What have you seen recently? Who’s blooming? Any pollinators? Lichen-coated rocks? Sidewalk weed? Frogs?
"SPOTLIGHT ON GREEN NEWS & VIEWS" IS POSTED EVERY SATURDAY AT 5:00 PM PACIFIC TIME AND WEDNESDAY AT 3:30 ON THE DAILY KOS FRONT PAGE. IT'S A GREAT WAY TO CATCH UP ON DIARIES YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED. BE SURE TO RECOMMEND AND COMMENT IN THE DIARY. |
