Please proceed Mr. Trump. All you like.
This one will be quick, I promise. In the last couple of days I’ve done back to back diaries regarding the Trumpster fire. First about the media finally calling him out on his verbal sleight of hand, and then about that fallout directly affecting his pathetic surrogates. There have been several recent comments in the diaries that the media absorption with Trump is drowning out Hillary, that she needs to break through.
Not at all folks. This is not a bug, it’s a feature. Clinton is still getting her coverage. Her rallies and policy speeches are being covered, either in full or with major bullet points broadcast, just like Trump. Where Trump and his surrogates are dominating is in the panel discussions, and these are discussions that neither the campaign nor the surrogates really want to have at this time.
The Clinton campaign is handling this perfectly. When “fair and balanced coverage” would be endless panels discussing “her damn e-mails” or the now confusing connection between her SOS chief of staff and what is apparently volunteer work for the Clinton Foundation, who needs that kind of coverage? Trump wants to control the news cycle, if this is how he’s going to do it, more power to him!
Hillary and Tim Kaine have clearly brought their A-Game. They’re getting the air time they want, they’re making their points clearly and forcefully, and they’re making just enough references to Trumps bubbling controversies to send the media scurrying back to those the minute Clinton and Kaine are done speaking. Notice how quiet the Clinton surrogates have been lately? There has been almost no reason for either aggression or damage control, Trump owns that arena and he’s welcome to it.
Clinton learned a long time ago what Orange Julius just can’t manage to grasp. It isn’t the amount of coverage, it’s what is being covered. Relax folks.
Thanks as always for reading!
