Actually of course, when in Charlotte this evening he said:
"In this journey, I will never lie to you. I will never tell you something I do not believe. I will never put anyone's interests ahead of yours. And, I will never, ever stop fighting for you.”
it could be argued that he is lying at the actual moment the words are coming out of his mouth, but even if one were to give him the benefit of the doubt, even if one were to believe that he was somehow capable of turning over what would be the greatest new leaf in the history of foliage, from the moment he promises no more lies, to his first provable lie, he lasts a magnificent . . 35 seconds.
His teleprompter was very carefully programmed to skirt the borders of truth -
" I have no special interest. I am spending millions of dollars on my own campaign – nobody else is.”
Technically still true as of August, as outlined below. But something’s gnawing away at Donald. There was this time, not so long ago . . and he really misses that time.
And so he decides to take an impromptu solo. He decides to go with -
“I have no special interest controlling me, and I have no special interest. I’m spending millions and millions of dollars on my own campaign. (slight pause) . . “
and then . .
"I’m funding my campaign.”
Did you watch it? Did you hear that slight pause? It was a halting, almost a stuttering just before he says it. He knows he’s veering off script to deliver up a portion of balony to a crowd that still desperately needs to believe in the old primary myth of the independently funded Donald.
"Trump did provide plenty of his own money to his campaign. But he also raised cash from ― predominantly ― small donors. Since then, he’s begun wooing the big fish in addition to spending his own dough.”
But since then, those Trump contributions have dwindled. The article, published August 1, goes on to state:
"To date, his campaign has raised $91.2 million. Of that total, $50 million has been his own money. Of the $39.2 million he has raised from contributors, $24.6 million could be classified as having come from small-dollar donations, while $5.58 million is from maxed-out donors.
The latest example of how inapplicable the title of “self funder” is to Donald Trump will come on Saturday, Aug. 6. On that day, Trump will travel to Nantucket to attend a high-end fundraiser with his finance chairman and RNC Chair Reince Priebus. The event will be held at the home of Ron Weinberg, who runs the private equity firm Weinberg Capital Group, and his wife."
And then a few days later on August 6, his campaign announced their haul for July - $80 million.
"The bulk of Trump’s July fundraising came from online and direct-mail solicitations, asking donors to give amounts as small as $35”
Donald’s contribution for the month? Two million dollars. Out of $90 million..
“I will never lie to you”
to -
“I’m funding my campaign” (wild cheers . . “)
It took 35 seconds.
