This is getting interesting. I’ve been ricocheting between MSNBC and CNN in the background while I’ve been slaving away here, and I heard something that surprised me. There were two different GOP strategists, one on CNN and one on MSNBC who said that Trump is so toxic that each one of them independently felt that Trump was not only going to lose NV, but they feel that this tape is going to lose UT, TX and GA! If TX and GA are at risk, what isn’t?
Mike Lee is up for reelection this year in Utah, he should be safe. But Trump is like the Fukushima power plant, it’s not the accident, it’s the radioactive cloud that does the damage. Mike Lee was smart enough to never actually endorse Trump, he took a “wait and see” attitude. But not endorsing him didn’t prove to be enough, he had to come out and publicly denounce Trump and his comments, going so far as to call for him to step aside. Why the panic now, after all this time? Simple, he doesn’t have a bio-hazard suit, and he must be seeing the same things that the strategists are. Sorry Mike, but he’s your candidate, he speaks for you, along with every other candidate with a (R) after his or her name, you can’t run, and you can’t hide, you own him.
Misty Snow should be a natural. She is young, intelligent, and hard working. She didn’t grow up with a silver spoon, she grew up with a brown bag lunch. Oh yeah, and one more thing, she wants to be the first transgender woman in U.S. Senate history.
I know, a transgender woman running in Mormon, conservative Utah?!? Think again. The 2010 census showed Salt Lake City with the third largest LGBT couple population in a mid sized city in the U.S.. They started their Gay Pride parade in 1983, and it has swelled to a 3 day festival of love and tolerance. If there’s one thing most Mormons have, it’s tolerance, the religious discrimination they suffered for generations has taught them as well as their religion about the need for tolerance. It’s not as lopsided an idea as you might think.
They might not vote for Misty, but it might not matter. Mormons don’t like Trump. If his sexist remarks turn them off completely and they stay home, this is deadly for Mike Lee, he needs those votes! That’s why he had to pull that grandstand stunt about Trump stepping down, he’s gotta reassure his base. If we motivate and GOTV we can take full advantage of every GOP voter who stays home.
Misty checks off all the right boxers on her platform. Of course she supports full LGBT rights. She supports single payer health care, she supports an incremental $2.00 an hour increase to the minimum wage every year for four years to get it to $15 an hour. She backs a Constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. She wants paid maternity leave and streamlined immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. The list goes on.
I’m sorry, but I refuse to believe that this is a long shot. Trump has single handedly erased the concept of a long shot this year. Why do you think Mike Lee had to come out and denounce him?
