If you spent more than 10 minutes thinking, reading, writing or talking about Trump today it was too much. Stop it, stop it, for the love of God, please stop it!
Ok, maybe that’s a bit harsh. There was a debate tonight, so I’ll give you 90 minutes if you are a political junkie. The debate is over now though, are you still thinking, reading, writing or talking about Trump?
If so then FFS, will you please stop? This is the Daily Kos. Not the Daily Bitch and Moan. We may be online, armchair activists, but let’s remember the activist part. I see no action being proposed in 98.9% of the diaries on the front page or rec list here these daze. Yes, I do mean daze, whether it’s the green or the orange that has everyone hypnotized, snap the fuck out of it.
We have real world problems here and all the “yep, he’s bad, he’s really bad” in the world is not going to change those problems. Only action will.
I’ve always been more focused on political issues than politicians but I’ve come to believe that it’s legislation and regulation that will solve the real world problems of so many, so now I focus on politicians.
NOT, presidential politicians though. In case you haven’t noticed, the President doesn’t actually have all that much power. But what about SCOTUS you say. Right, how about that? How’s that going? How many days has it been since we’ve had a fully functioning Supreme Court? It’s not within the Presidents power to make it so, and that’s the same for a lot of issues.
Which is why my focus is on Congress, Congress, Congress. I want a Democratically controlled Senate and House. I want a majority of states with Democratic Governors and Legislative bodies controlled by Democrats. Why? Because this country is a better place when Democrats are in charge.
We have real world problems here, that even we armchair activist’s can help. And yeah, I expect some folks will come in the comments to slam me because, I don’t know how many blocks they’ve walked for whatever candidate, or how many pamphlet’s they’ve passed out. If that is the case you probably don’t need to come in and tell me, this diary isn’t about you and shouldn’t make you feel defensive. (Though feel free to share what you do IRL to help inspire others.)
But, if you are one of the many people who write diary after diary about Trump without ever mentioning a down ballot candidate, well, then, as Kos says, “Fuck off”. Don’t come in here complaining. If you feel bad about your inaction, don’t get defensive here, just write your usual “Trump Sucks” diary but put a down ballot candidate in it some place. Is that so hard? One link, to one candidate.
If you really want to show the Republican Party you think their candidate sucks, help take as many of them as you can out of office in this election. Want to show the country the Democratic Party is the party who cares? Help the people who need it most right now.
