We’re in the homestretch now, hell the final four furlongs. (I can do horse racing metaphors too!) This has been an election the likes of which we’ve never seen before. All by himself the Orange Julius has thrown out the entire rule book. Not just the “running for President” rule book, but the rule book for handicapping (there’s another one) and predicting election results. Past results do not always indicate future performance, anyone who has invested on Wall Street knows. When states like UT, SD, NC, AZ and GA are suddenly in play, if not necessarily in the Presidential election, but in the Senate and the House, all bets are off. Anything is in play because Trump made it possible.
Those of us over at the Election Action Team, the 50 State Strategy, and the DK Fans of 90for90 teams are full speed ahead, firing every torpedo we have at the GOPtania. I know, congressional races in places like SD, UT, ID and AK are not glorious undertakings. We’re not going to be rock stars, and we’re not gonna rule the Rec list. But, to repeat my title, it ALL matters!
Look, we need to flip 30 House seats to give Nancy Pelosi the gavel back. Let me ask you one simple question. Does anyone in here really give a shit where they come from? Is a flipped seat from AZ or TX somehow more valuable or glamorous than one from SD or AK? A seat is a seat, and we need thirty of them. So let’s get it done!
No, I am not asking you to all chip in and write a candidate diary, not everyone is comfortable as a diarist. I’m asking you for two simple things. First, all I’m asking you to do is to read them. Reading is what we do 90% of the time here, so what’s so hard? The second thing is to show them some love. Tip and Rec them, give them exposure, and most importantly, Tweet and Facebook share them! This is critical. I have personally written candidate diaries that maybe, if I’m lucky, generated 5-10 Rec’s, but they generated 10-15 Facebook shares. When I went back to the diary several hours later, with re-shares, the number was in the low hundreds. I can’t tell you how important this is. One can only presume that at least some of, if not most of those shares are going to the local states and districts, hopefully generating donations, volunteers and eventually votes.
I learned a long time ago that we are a community within a community. There are many Kossacks out there, along with a legion of “lurkers” who seldom diary, and seldom comment. But they read. And some of them are progressives who have some coin in their pockets that they’d like to share. These candidate diaries are a conduit, allowing these people to read and learn about these candidates and hopefully contribute to support them. Or maybe they’ll forward the information to other people who can and will.
Twenty six goddamn days. Please, do me this solid. Read and forward these candidate diaries to social media for the next 26 days, let’s do everything in our power to create the wave we’ve all been dreaming of. If you’re of a mind, volunteer for your local candidates, whichever state or district you’re in. On November 9th we can all spike the football and high five. Then on November 10th we can turn to the project of repairing the Democratic party and gear up for 2018, you can bet I’ll be writing more about that then. But for now, let’s all get together, and work to make this the blowout we’ve been dreaming of. To quote the great Sean Connery in The Untouchables, “Here endeth the lesson”.
