“Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are” is the English translation of “Dime con quién andas y te diré quien eres.” It was referred to in the 2012 Presidential election and I recently came upon it again here:
The “Other Guys” the post is referring to are the supporters and funders of Congressman Honda’s opponent, one of whom spoke at the RNC (donating more than $7 million to right-wing causes since 2000 while believing women’s suffrage negatively impacts our country). The choice that voters will make to occupy the 17th congressional house seat reflects the choice they’ll make to occupy the White House:
“We have the opportunity to make a choice not only about what kind of country we want to have, but what kind of community we want Silicon Valley to be. We can choose divisiveness, fear, and prejudice, or we can choose tolerance, justice, and equality. We can choose a system that favors Wall Street billionaires, or take a path that prioritizes the needs of families working for secure, healthy futures.”
~Congressman Mike Honda
According to That’s My Congress, US Score Card, Rep Mike Honda is in a 7 way tie with the most liberal voting members of the house. In his sixteen years as a congressman he’s developed strong relationships with those he works with including Senator Barbara Boxer; Reps. Barbara Lee, Keith Ellison, John Lewis, Zoe Lofgren, and Xavier Becerra. This is just a small sample of strong progressives who value his integrity, legislative record, and statesmanship.
Below are friends and endorsers of Congressman Mike Honda who personally vouch for his character and leadership on Civil rights for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or socio economic level, and a small sample of political action and advocacy groups. Let’s begin with the wonderful Hikaru Sulu George Takei.
“Seen only for what made us different, this dehumanizing experience left us both determined to fight against discrimination for the rest of our lives. This is what has fueled Mike’s lifelong commitment to public service. Since his first day in office, Mike has been a passionate and outspoken ally for the LGBTQ community, fighting for the rights of our community long before the Democratic Party as a whole would take up our cause. To this day, he continues to be a voice for the voiceless — standing up to divisive and hateful rhetoric.” ~George Takei on recalling memories of his childhood while interned by the US Government.
Answer to question (caption of opening photo): “...a courageous and outspoken leader on equality, and a force to be reckoned with..." Who said that, George Takei or Rep. Mike Honda? “ Rep. Honda called Takei “a courageous and outspoken leader on equality, and a force to be reckoned with online. I’m honored that he is continuing his support for my campaign.”
“He is one of the most influential and powerful Asian Americans ever to lead our country, fighting for all the right issues. I am proud to call him my friend and strongly endorse his re-election.” ~Rep. John Lewis
“from improving public safety, fighting to end human trafficking, and ensuring the civil rights of all people are protected – Mike has always been there.” ~California Attorney General Kamala Harris
“Honda has been a tireless advocate for the people of Silicon Valley: securing funding for BART expansion, boosting critical research in nanotechnology, and fighting to ensure that every child has access to quality education.” ~Controller Betty Yee
“an unwavering ally to California’s students and teachers. As a former science teacher and principal, education has always been one of his top priorities. Mike is working across the aisle to improve science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in our classroom’s, which will provide our children and country with the skills to stay competitive in this global economy.” ~Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.
“I am proud to say that I have known Mike for many years. Serving in the Peace Corp and being an educator for more than three decades has prepared him for a life long commitment to public service,” said Huerta. “He has always been a steady, reliable champion for working families. He always does what is right and I am honored to endorse his re-election campaign.” ~Dolores Huerta, Labor Leader and Civil Rights activist
“I support Congressman Mike Honda because of his effective leadership on important public safety issues,” said District Attorney O’Malley. “He was able to reach across the aisle to his Republican colleagues and to guide the Congressional Appropriations Committee to include $86 million over two years in the Federal budget to test sexual assault kits sitting on shelves, untested for years. Because of his leadership and persistence this will help bring justice to several hundred thousand victim-survivors of sexual assault.” ~Nancy O’Malley, Alameda County District Attorney

A new endorsement by actor and political activist Danny Glover says, "Mike Honda knows firsthand what the struggle for racial justice means, having experienced his very first memories as a child within the walls of a Japanese-American internment camp. And as the proud grandfather of a beautiful, transgender girl, he continues to defend the marginalized and the bullied, whoever they might be. I will rely on him as an unwavering ally as we defeat the massive corporate giveaway that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As the country is poised to unleash new energy to overcome our greatest challenges, we can’t afford to revert to corporate-driven politics as usual. That’s why building progressive momentum depends on reelecting Mike Honda to the U.S. House of Representatives.”
