USA Today has picked Kate McKinnon as Entertainer of the Year. I can’t remember when I agreed more strongly with such a pick. If there is a greater talent in present-day entertainment, I don’t know who it would be.
The USA Today article writes:
At the start of 2016, we didn’t know how much we’d need Kate McKinnon.
Is that the understatement of the year? Could well be.
It won’t be true of 2017, though. We have a pretty good sense of how much we’ll need her in the coming year.
USA Today wrapped it up quite well.
Yet no appearance was more effective than on Nov. 12, when McKinnon delivered one heck of an electoral finale.
Sitting at a piano in a white pantsuit, the glassy-eyed comedian sang Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in SNL's cold open, a moving tribute to those who had hoped for a first female president, and to Cohen, who had died just days before.
No jokes. No cue cards. Just one woman, offering catharsis to a divided nation.
She’s not giving up, and neither should we.
What a brilliant talent! What a glowing human being! Kate McKinnon is a gift to us all.
As will she be in 2017, too.
