An article on Breitbart News was given pride of place, front page to a report that a gang of youths had set fire to a homeless man on Christmas in Germany, the man was saved by a passerby. They made sure to label this gang of youths as “migrants”, who were “Syrian and Libyan”. The police are still looking for the suspects according to the article.
Yes what the group of individuals did was a vile act, a crime, and they should be punished to the full extent of the law. But what Breitbart did is also vile. They are intentionally stoking hate and fear in a political propaganda campaign designed to incite and inflame already raw emotions in Germany.
Why not report on similar acts of violence at home? For example these two middle aged white men who ambushed a homeless man.
The Boston Globe reports:
Police said two brothers from South Boston ambushed the 58-year-old as he slept outside of a Dorchester MBTA stop, and targeted him because he is Hispanic. One of the brothers said he was inspired in part by GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Or report on this horrible crime in Ohio:
The murder of a homeless man who was set on fire outside a church in Zanesville, Ohio?
A quick search of the web on crimes against the homeless in the US provides for some staggering and sobering statistics. In fact it appears that there is an epidemic of violent crimes against the most vulnerable among us in the US.
However Breitbart is not really concerned about the homeless, they are engaged in a coordinated plan to bring their particular brand of hate and intolerance to the political realm in the EU because their particular brand of propaganda worked so well in the US.
We need to call this type of propaganda out at any and every turn. On the surface it appears that they are reporting on a single horrific crime, when in essence they are engaged in a campaign of hate and intolerance to assist in destabilizing one of the few remaining leaders of the free world after January 20, 2016.
And we need to do what we can in our communities to protect the most vulnerable of our citizens.
