I got into a long twitter conversation with someone yesterday about how Bernie Sanders was focused on class, and how this person was hoping for a candidate who would “center” the issue of white privilege and racism. Anyway, so today I decide I need to re-read what Bernie says about race, and check out Hillary’s views as well.
Imagine my surprise when I go to HillaryClinton.com/issues and I see she has 26 issues listed:
Alzheimer’s disease, Campaign finance reform, Campus sexual assault, Climate change and energy, College, Criminal justice reform, Disability rights, Early childhood education, Economy, Gun violence prevention, Health care, Immigration reform, Infrastructure, K-12 education, Labor, LGBT equality, National security, Paid leave, Rural communities, Small business, Social Security and Medicare, Substance use disorder and addiction, Veterans, Voting rights, Wall Street, Women’s rights and opportunity, Workforce and skills
But racism is nowhere to be found.
That’s right folks. The candidate with the “firewall” in “diverse” states, forgot to write something about racism as an issue on her website.
Meanwhile, at BernieSanders.com/issues we find this:
Racial Justice
We must pursue policies to transform this country into a nation that affirms the value of its people of color. That starts with addressing the five central types of violence waged against black, brown and indigenous Americans: physical, political, legal, economic and environmental.
followed by a long exposition on each of the five types of violence.
So forgive me if I laugh in your face the next time you tell me you want to criticize Bernie Sanders because he talks about class and not enough about racism’s ill-effects. The candidate who was supposed to be capped at 30% support because of his limited appeal to minorities has a better thought out platform on Racial Justice. The inevitable candidate, the one who’s a progressive who gets things done has no plan available and apparently nothing she’d like to get done on racial justice.
