Remember the early 2000’s?
Our country was reeling from the 9-11 attacks.
Fox news was in its ascendancy and W was president. The “Hammer” and his evangelical ilk were rising to power in the House. Bush was using 9-11 angst to push through an unnecessary invasion of Iraq.
If there was ever a time for true leadership to stand up — it was this time.
The Democratic response: crickets.
I’m not using this scenario to rehash Clinton’s failures, instead, I’m bringing this up as a remembrance of my feelings during that terrible time in our political history.
That chapter in American politics marked a period of profound political disengagement for me. I didn’t understand or relate to many of my fellow Americans, so I tuned out. I stopped reading blogs and watching news. Whenever a political conversation started up at a social gathering I attended, I would walk away.
Today we are in a post Citizens United America. The corporate takeover of our government is nearly complete.
Now is another time for leadership.
Are we to expect the same leadership that failed us in the run up the Iraq war to help us this time? Faced with a Clinton/Trump race in November, I’m beginning to feel the same sense of disengagement I felt before.
I’m giving Clinton supporters one more chance before I tune out:
CONVINCE me why Clinton's business associations don’t matter. How can I trust her to show real leadership THIS TIME when the middle class is getting pummeled economically?
