Here is Clare Lopez, one of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz's "national security advisers."
“[Muslim Brotherhood] affiliates and associates and those connected to it are the go-to advisers, if not appointees, for the top levels of national security in our government, in this administration for sure, but going back many decades, really, is the program of this Brotherhood,” she claimed.
Clare Lopez, a member of insane person Frank Gaffney's conspiracy-riddled Center for Security Policy, is arguing here that the Muslim Brotherhood has been slowly taking control of our government because—well, it's all very complicated, but the short version is because Frank Gaffney only surrounds himself with conspiracy-minded lunatics with too much time on their hands and only tenuous connections to the physical dimensions that the rest of us inhabit. Frank Gaffney is also one of Ted Cruz's national security advisers, because of course he is.
So what does Clare Lopez think we should be doing about this omnipresent Muslim menace? Fortunately, she says, there is a successful template for these things. She would like you to know that Joe McCarthy was right when he saw secret communists everywhere. He was right when he said he had a list that nobody else could see. He was super-duper-right and a patriot whose House-led efforts to ruin countless American lives in a hunt for traitors in our midst were not the televised version of the Salem Witch Trials, but a model for how Clare would like us to deal with those sneaky modern traitors like Obama and Hillary and conservative anti-tax kingpin Grover Norquist.
“And then, like now, we were unprepared and in large measure unaware of what was going on, at least until the House Un-American Activities got rolling in the 1950s with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, who absolutely was spot-on in just about everything he said about the levels of infiltration. So we have precedent for this where we were not fully aware of the infiltration occurring at the time.”
Let’s point out here that we are not talking about supposed national security advisers to the obvious crackpot in the race, Donald Trump. These are the people advising a sitting senator—Ted Cruz, considered by movement conservatives the "truest" conservative in the race.
He is the (albeit hated) establishment candidate Republican party elders are hoping will defeat Trump and bring the party back to the calm, sensible days of Joe McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. This is also where Ted Cruz is getting policy stances like his most recent one, declaring that American police need to move in and “secure” American Muslim neighborhoods.
At this point the Republican Party may want to consider burning itself down for the insurance money.
