Not only are businesses like Target, PayPal, and major musicians like Bruce Springsteen protesting and/or boycotting the discriminatory NC HB2 law, the people of North Carolina are taking to the streets. No armchair politics here. People from all walks of life gathered in Raleigh during a Massive Moral Monday March and Sit in to protest the anti-LGBT bill, or as many call in now—the “Hate Bill 2.” During the protest 54 peaceful protestors were arrested.
The images, below, from the event tell a lot about the people of North Carolina. This was one of the many Moral Monday marches and events that have taken place over the last few years. It’s something to see and experience. The movement founded by Rev. Dr. William Barber III and NC-NAACP has a mantra:
Forward Together — Not One Step Back
On the same day as the Massive Moral March, a bill was introduced in North Carolina’s General Assembly to repeal HB2 — to no avail. Republicans own the House, Senate, State Supreme Court and Governor’s office and from the first day they took control, the corruption against the people has been non-stop. And from that first day, the people have been fighting them non-stop. Here are some photos from an April rally. Given these images below, I’m betting love is going to win again.
Thank you to the people of North Carolina who stand up, show up, and speak out for human rights.
UPDATE: The Department of Justice has sued Governor McCrory and the State of North Carolina calling HB2 unconstitutional. McCrory came back on May 8, 2016 to counter sue the DOJ. This and Donald Trump is what the Republican Party looks like — today.
On April 19, Target boldly took a stand against recent Republican laws that specifically discriminate against the transgender community. The retail chain issued a public statement welcoming everyone to “use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.”
The right-wing backlash has been brutal. One ultra-conservative organization immediately started a petition that now has over 700,000 people pledging to boycott Target.
To help counter the backlash, sign below to let Target know we fully support their battle against discrimination.
