Former President Jimmy Carter, 91, and his wife former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, 88, delighted an audience of approximately 6,500 when they joined Willie Nelson, 83, and Kris Kristofferson, 80, onstage at Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday. Together they sang the song “Amazing Grace.” The Carters weathered the rain along with the audience to attend the concert of legends. A fan, Jeff Gambelize, captured the performance video.
Angela Stephan with The Boot writes:
Carter is a longtime fan of Nelson’s music and frequently invited the singer to perform at the White House. In fact, it was during Carter’s presidency that the country icon famously smoked pot on the roof of the White House.
This was not the first time the Carters have performed with Nelson. The trio performed the same song on the same stage In 2012.
The two men both grew up in the South and worked as blacksmiths and at picking cotton.
“All the good things I did as president, all the mistakes I made — you can blame half of that on Willie,” Carter once said.
