Ted Cruz. To know him is to loathe him. Those who’ve worked with him call him the love child of Joseph McCarthy and Dracula. Or Lucifer in the flesh with a bonus shot of ‘miserable SOB.’ He’s the kind of guy who’s so despicable that he would tell a joke about someone who is at his son's funeral.
But hey, maybe we have it all wrong. Maybe it’s not really Ted’s fault.
Donald Trump on Tuesday alleged that Ted Cruz’s father was with John F. Kennedy’s assassin shortly before he murdered the president, parroting a National Enquirer story claiming that Rafael Cruz was pictured with Lee Harvey Oswald handing out pro-Fidel Castro pamphlets in New Orleans in 1963.
Maybe it’s a genetic thing. Maybe it’s nurture. I mean, if your poppa killed JFK, the chances that you’re going to grow up super-creepy are probably super-high.
“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous,” Trump said Tuesday during a phone interview with Fox News. …
“I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?” Trump continued. “It’s horrible.”
Honestly, what’s ridiculous here is that this won’t hurt Trump. Trump’s campaign doesn’t run on policy, and it certainly doesn’t run on logic. It runs on conspiracy theory. Mexicans are raping our women. The Chinese are raping the whole country. Hillary is… take your pick from the big stack of old Drudge, National Enquirer, and Limbaugh stories. So Ted Cruz’ father was on the grassy knoll. Sure. Why not. Was Castro back there with him? I bet it was Castro.
Besides, we know that Ted Cruz is definitely not the Zodiac Killer (though if it was a father—son project… Hmm.)
