Marco Rubio weighs using Orlando as excuse for Senate run

Think carefully.

It’s comforting to think there’s a special hell reserved just for those who try to profit from human misery. It’s open to people of all faiths, from all nations. Some people have already filled out their admission forms. Others are debating their options.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the mass shooting this weekend in Orlando, Florida, gave him pause about his service and “deeply impacted” him, remarks that were widely read as pushing the door back open on possibly running for re-election. …

“I’ve been deeply impacted by it,” he continued. “When it visits your home state and it impacts a community you know well, it really gives you pause to think about your service to your country and where you can be most useful to your country."

Now, there’s a chance what Rubio means by this is that rather than use this horrible night of violence as an excuse to re-enter the Senate race, he’s going to take this opportunity to campaign for something else. Tolerance. Peace. Unity.

Hewitt said he hoped it would lead Rubio to run for re-election.
