A couple months ago, Donald Trump Jr. reportedly approached an adviser to Ohio Gov. John Kasich to see if Kasich would be interested in being vice president on steroids.
… Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.
Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?
“Making America great again” was the casual reply.
Making America great again … though not through domestic or foreign policy, apparently. Question: Can you make America great through tweeting and calling in to cable news shows? If so, Trump at least has the methodology down, if not the substance.
But as shocking as it is that a major party presidential nominee doesn’t want to do the job of president, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this. In May, campaign chair Paul Manafort said that Trump “needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesn’t want to do. He seems himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.” So Trump’s lack of interest in the job is not something his campaign is even necessarily trying to hide.
