With the 2nd Amendment comment, Donald Trumps rantings and rhetoric have gone too far and are descending into darkness, from which there is no return. Some food for thought on the current furor.
Matthew Chapter 7 is considered the sayings of Jesus. A lot of the verses are very familiar sayings, and appropriate to our current problems. Here are a selected few that describe the current presidential campaign and Donald Trump’s behavior, with my commentary.
1. Judge not that ye be not judged. Too many of us refuse to listen and blindly follow anyone who promises us prosperity or change they can’t, or won’t fulfill.
5. Thou hypocrite, first cast the beam out or thine own eye; and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. Evangelicals, take note. There are none so blind than those that will not see.
6. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample you them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Can we say Trump U, stiffing contractors and bankruptcies.
9. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Promises of jobs, deporting illegals and a GREAT wall. All undeliverable.
15. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Tax cuts for everyone, especially the rich.
16. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles. You can substitute works or words for fruits. What Trump is selling we definitely shouldn’t be buying .
20. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat (Peter, Paul & Mary). Donald Trump is definitely a lemon and impossible to take.
26. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house on sand. The Donald is not adhering to even basic civility in the campaign and it is crumbling rapidly.
27. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. It’s going to be a stormy three months before the inevitable collapse of Donald Trump and the Republican Party on Nov 8 . Sigh!
Read the entire chapter. The wisdom is timeless and entirely appropriate to the current issues we are facing.
