Hello again — I wanted to give you all an update about my campaign and everything that’s happening here in Wisconsin. I wrapped up visiting all of Wisconsin's 72 counties twice. We’ve logged over 50,000 miles on the campaign van and made hundreds of stops across Wisconsin to listen to working and middle-class families about the issues that matter most to them.
We’ve also been traveling around the state in our first-ever traveling Campaign HQ -- a 1989 Winnebago that’s been on the road delivering yard signs, bumper stickers, and other campaign materials to voters across Wisconsin.
The Russ Bus in Stevens Point, WI.
The Daily Kos community has been with me from the beginning. I want to thank you all for your interest in the race and continued support. I talk a lot about how this campaign is driven by grassroots support, because I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished together. I’m proud that -- no matter how much money the Koch brothers pour into Wisconsin, no matter how many right-wing outside groups continue to fund attack ads for my opponent -- you’re not intimidated. You keep stepping up.
Today, I’m asking you to step up again.
Today is our 2016 Cheddarbomb: Wisconsin’s version of a grassroots moneybomb. Our goal is to reach 10,000 contributions in 24 hours -- a response to the ten conservative groups that have run ads for my opponent, Senator Ron Johnson.
Will you step up and make a grassroots contribution to our Cheddarbomb right now?
You know what’s at stake: Senator Johnson has been called the Koch brothers’ "model legislator." He’s against even the existence of the federal minimum wage -- and you can forget about raising it -- and has said that legislation to help women fight for equal pay would do “more harm than good.” But he’s all for giving breaks to large multinational corporations that ship our jobs overseas.
Senator Johnson is listening to his out-of-state special interest cronies, not the Wisconsinites he was elected to represent.
I know because I’ve been to each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties at least twice, and I’ve talked to thousands of Wisconsinites from all walks of life. And what I’m hearing is that they’re ready to unite and work together. And they want a senator who will listen to them, not to the Koch brothers or special interest groups.
We can win this race, but it’s going to take every ounce of support we can muster. Senator Johnson has ten conservative groups supporting his campaign, including three super PACs. You can be sure that the Koch brothers won’t give up their “model legislator” without a fight.
That’s why I’m asking you to stand with me right now.
Support my one-day Cheddarbomb with a grassroots contribution. Help me reach our goal of 10,000 contributions by midnight tonight.
We know we can’t change everything at once. But when we work together, when we work hard, and honor each other’s work, we can build our families and enjoy lives of accomplishment, dignity, and happiness.
Thank you for everything that you’re doing. I’ll be around for throughout the day, so if you have any questions, ask away. I’ll respond to as many as I can.
