Intelligent and responsible Americans, including President Obama, are raising all manner of alarm about Donald Trump's pettiness, combativeness, lack of political savvy and overall unfitness to be President of the United States. The media is bombards us with sensational detail of each new flap as well as their own editorial commentaries. But there is a proverbial “800lb gorilla” in the room—a potential consequence of a Trump win in the election which which is so profound, dire, and far reaching that it may be an existential threat that “trumps” all others. In this case, Donald Trump does not even have to do anything to lead America to ruin except win the election. And the media are not helping us broaden our scope to encompass this greatest of immanent threats. The 800lb gorilla is that America is a “debtor nation”. And the last person we should have as the face of American creditworthiness and the stability of our currency and economy to the greater world is Donald Trump--the man who has used a myth of enormous personal wealth and success he has created for himself which has allowed him to fleece creditors, contractors and investors in dimensions which would have had anyone else in jail by now. It may yet catch up with Trump that running for President of the United States is the final fate which was best left untempted, but unless and until he is brought down through due process, America’s creditworthiness is imperiled, and creditors, debt-holders, debt buyers and the global economy in general will come closer and closer each of these last 90 days to the potential for the grounds for the worst kind of panic ever seen to sudden;y grip the world.
We Americans live inside a pseudo-society unto itself—set off from the rest of the world by two great oceans and the dozen time zones of relative emptiness that come with them. Our culture and our media are underpinned by commercialism which has a self-serving agenda to keep letting us tell ourselves whatever we want—that we are “exceptional” or great or “number one” in everything while shutting out any kind of sense that the American adult needs to trade in a portion of our entertainment time to formally educate ourselves to interpret and share a common truthful interpretation of contemporary American and global history. Instead we remain a culture of individual “beliefs” only impacted in small pieces by 24 hour “news” cycle—and at that. it is further divided by partisanship these days. Presidential election cycles do not usually cause us to think in the terms demanded by this particular election. You may dismiss my assertion entirely. But I guaranty that just because the 800LB gorilla takes up your entire peripheral vision, he is there in this case and Hillary Clinton would do wise to work this message into her pallet of reasons to run don’t walk away from the con man in chief. That’s a title he has earned and he is welcome to it. It is time to cease giving him the benefit of any doubt—because that little bit of uncertainty as to whether he is really a successful business man or a heartless criminal has bankrupted thousands of Americans and no one outside of our neat pseudo world between the two great oceans in not on to the truth. I for one can’t afford to have any of my dollars suddenly become worth a quarter or fifty cents when the US dollar is made a joke by Donal Trump.
