It seems that every weekend as Trump heads off to another golfing excursion at taxpayers’ expense, he’s inspired to use social media to inflame whatever the Trump outrage du jour is roiling decent Americans’ consciences. This weekend was no different and as a highly respected entertainer said, Trump showed himself to be “the shittiest president ever.” Of course that is the case; but he has again revealed to the world that he is, in street parlance, a punk-ass douchebag.
No other human being alive would launch a vicious attack on American citizens and a local politician pleading for help in an honest-to-dog life-and-death situation; they just wouldn’t do it. But it’s glaringly apparent that Donald Trump has no redeeming “human” qualities; greed, hatred, bigotry and corruption may be human qualities, but there is nothing “redeeming” about them or Donald Trump.
Trump’s attacks on San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz and the suffering American citizens in Puerto Rico are typical of the petulant piece of work the Russians, racists and evangelicals put in the White House. Trump is such a monumental douche, he even took time to lash out at another innocent group, NFL players exercising their Constitutional rights, as is his wont to start the weekend.
While Trump was luxuriating at a resort and belittling a politician pleading for aid for her people, the mayor of San Juan was doing something completely foreign to Donald Trump; working tirelessly to help other American citizens. Only a legitimate asshole could be so petty when 3.4 million American citizens on an island in “a big ocean” are facing life-and-death circumstances 10 long days after Hurricane Maria virtually wiped out the American territory.
Instead of making aid to the American citizens his highest priority, and acknowledging that much more needed to be done even after his representatives called for more help, Trump “tweeted”
“The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. The military and first responders, despite no electric,(sic) roads, phones etc., have done an amazing job. Puerto Rico was totally destroyed.”
Whether it’s because Puerto Ricans are people of color, or not dyed-in-the-wool red state conservatives, is irrelevant; they are American citizens that Trump just had to demean because the San Juan mayor went on television and reiterated her desperate plea for help. It is a certainty that part of what drove Trump’s attack on Ms. Cruz was she is a woman and didn’t fawn over the misogynist. Trump wasn’t content to attack a woman and had to target the media as well:
“Because of fake news my people are not getting the credit they deserve for doing a great job. They are ALL doing a GREAT JOB.”
That is not the case according to the general Trump sent to oversee aid to dying Puerto Ricans. General Buchanan, who arrived in Puerto Rico on Thursday to take over the hurricane response disputed Trump’s claim of “a great job.” By early Friday he vindicated Mayor Cruz’s contention that there was insufficient aid in personnel and resources. General Buchanan went on CNN and broke with Trump’s claims by agreeing with Mayor Cruz saying “He needed more personnel and resources. The answer is no, it’s not enough and we’re bringing more in.” This reality came ten long days after the hurricane decimated the island and Trump claimed everything was great.
Even Trump’s acting secretary of Homeland Security, Elaine Duke, who toed the administration line on Thursday saying the tragedy in Puerto Rico was “Really a good news story in terms of our ability to reach people and the limited number of deaths” changed her tune when she arrived on the devastated island on Friday. It didn’t take long for reality to smack Ms. Duke in the face because she quickly agreed with Mayor Cruz and General Buchanan saying “the situation on the ground was not satisfactory.” Ms. Duke could have been more forthcoming as said the situation “was not great.”
There has been no small amount of “issue” that supplies aren’t being delivered where they’re needed, including that Puerto Rican people aren’t doing their share. This assertion came at the same time Trump let slip that he knows damn well that the roads were decimated by the flooding and hurricane’s devastation.
That “issue” begs the question: where the Hell are the military’s vast supply of helicopters? If they are capable, and they are, of transporting tanks and armored personnel carriers, they are capable of transporting aid to Puerto Ricans suffering from a lack of food, water and medical provisions.
After the respectable response to the hurricane damage in Florida and Texas, it is apparent, at least to this author, that Trump hreally does have an issue with people of color; it is the only reasonable conclusion for the less-than-robust emergency aid. For dog’s sake, he even waited over a week to temporarily waive a century-old shipping law (Jones Act) after severe criticism from recovery officials bemoaning the hindrance to relief efforts by sea.
There are no non-profane words to accurately define Trump on a normal day; even though “normal” and “Trump” do not belong in the same sentence. What is happening in Puerto Rico is a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions and it is happening to American citizens.
San Juan’s mayor, living in a shelter and sleeping on a cot, said municipal employees were working as hard as they could and reiterated that she wasn’t criticizing Trump; he still criticized her, the media, and curiously Democrats. Ms. Cruz said,
"Actually, I was asking for help — I wasn't saying anything nasty about the President [Trump].
It didn’t matter what the mayor said; she is a woman who didn’t praise a vile excuse for a human being and that alone is what incited Trump’s typically petulant attacks on her and the American citizens calling Puerto Rico their home.
Trump has done and said some seriously sick things since his poorly-attended inauguration, but this latest outrage is beyond “seriously sick.” Only a demented punk would take a legitimate plea to help 3.4 million American citizens suffering a legitimate humanitarian crisis as a personal affront. And only a vile piece of human waste would lash out at the person pleading for help to save other American citizens’ lives; it is just a dirty crying shame that this particularly despicable piece of shit is living in the White House.
Although Trump typically expresses only one or two of his inhumane qualities during ‘Twitter’ rants, he succeeding in revealing his misogyny, vindictiveness, desire for unwarranted praise and sheer disregard for American citizens in a barrage of petulant tweets. As no small number of people in America and around the world have noted, it is baffling how the man in the White House could be so petty when 3.4 million American citizens are suffering. But it is Donald Trump and besides being a misogynist, a racist, and narcissistic malcontent, he has shown in grand fashion that he is a petty little man with no socially redeeming qualities, or value to humanity, whatsoever.
