Yes! That’s right! Your friendly neighborhood Democratic Promise has been endorsed by one of the biggest names in Democratic politics right now — Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison, Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee!
Quick update for anyone who hasn’t heard about the Democratic Promise yet. Democratic Promise is a constituent outreach service. Volunteers phone bank into different localities, calling all numbers, regardless of party affiliation. Ask if someone needs help. Anyone who answers yes is referred to a community worker. We have a staffed social worker that follows up with people and connects them to the government agencies that can help them.
In his endorsement, Congressman Ellison referenced the radical impact Democratic Promise can have on rural Virginians, stating "...we are the Party of the People, and this initiative is the foundation on which we will rebuild the trust of those we aim to serve."
It’s a basic concept. Knock Every Door. Call Every Phone. We’ve started in rural Virginia, but Rep. Ellison is interested in seeing it roll out nationally. While this is a great way to connect to rural voters, it is also a fantastic way to build relationships and serve the people in every type of community.
It’s a long term plan — there will be no surge of happy voters in time for the next election, but relationships don’t happen overnight, and the democratic party isn’t going to regain trust overnight.
We have to go out and show the American people that we have their backs, and we’re all in this world together.
