Scrolling through Twitter this morning I saw a tweet talking about what community organizer Roberto Pérez Santoni, known locally in Puerto Rico as “Papo Christian,” had to say about Donald Trump and his paper towel throwing visit to the island—and traced it back to this Washington Post video:
Papo Christian cries out:
How much blood has been spilled by Puerto Ricans to maintain Democracy in the United States?
You are a charlatan
Have you served in the Army, has one of your sons, any relatives?
FEMA is supposed to be here to help us.
Is not the great nation of the United States the cradle of Democracy, humanity and the defender of human rights?
He had more things to say about Trump in an interview with WKAQ, reported here. calling him a “racist, classist, slave trader”...and more. He also pointed out that Trump went to see affluent Guaynabo, rather than visiting much harder hit poorer areas.
I like that word for describing Trump — not just because of his abominable treatment of the our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico and the USVI. It seems to fit his entire posture and operating procedure as POTUS.
Charlatan which is written in Spanish as “charlatán” is defined as:
A charlatan (also called swindler or mountebank) is a person practicing quackery or some similar confidence trick or deception in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages via some form of pretense or deception
Synonyms for charlatan:
Swindler, con artist, cheat, con, fake, fraud, imposter, mountebank, phony, pretender, quack, sham, and rip-off artist.
I’m sure you all have some expressive things to call Trump. Most of mine are unprintable. I am going to borrow “charlatán” from Papo Christian to use — frequently, which will save me from having to throw more money into the cuss jar.
