Today’s my 30th birthday!
Of course, it’s in the midst of my mayoral campaign, so I haven’t really stopped to reflect on the last three decades and my hope for the next year and decade. I promise that I’ll do that after November 7.
Every day on the campaign trail, I talk about my involvement in the community, the fact that I own a business, the fact that I led the area’s largest council (or chapter) of an international organization. I tell people about my vision for making my hometown stronger, safer, more engaged, and better managed.
So why do I feel unaccomplished at 30?
Maybe it’s the fact that there are now at least seven Michigan lawmakers (out of 148) who are younger than me… including my own representative. I know I shouldn’t be comparing myself to others, but…
Maybe it’s because it was a struggle to get on my feet after I graduated from college (I graduated in 2010, of all years)…
Like I said, after the election I will slow down and reflect on my life up to this point.
In the meantime, tell us your effing problem.
Oh, and get off my lawn.
