Okay, if you have been paying attention to the news, you may have heard stuff about Russia.
Russia hacked the election for Trump. Russia used social media to throw the election and divide America. Russia is where Trump has been going for the money to keep his deals going. Russia has all kinds of ties to the Trump campaign and the Trump administration. Russian hackers are continuing to target America and all the other western democracies, stirring up right-wing movements. Trump is Putin’s bitch, and so on.
Well forget all that — you’ve been played by the liberal media.
The REAL Russia story is that those corrupt Clintons made a deal to sell off America’s uranium supplies to Russia in exchange for billions in bribes to the Clinton’s money-laundering foundation. It was going on throughout the Obama administration — even the FBI turned a blind eye. (Under some guy named Mueller. Now why does he sound familiar?)
The liberal media has been ignoring all this and covering it up while they attack President Trump. But the truth is coming out! Witnesses are coming forward. Investigations discover more incriminating evidence every day!
And now, at long last, Congressional Hearings are going to reveal the awful truth about Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and the corruption in the highest circles of the Democrats.
A pair of House committees are opening a probe into a uranium deal involving a Russian company approved during the Obama administration.
A confidential informant came forward, sparking the House intelligence and oversight committees to look at whether there was an FBI investigation into the deal, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Tuesday.
“It’s important that we find out why that deal went through and certainly in view of recent allegations and questions it’s important this inquiry goes forward,” said Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.).
The probe, announced by King, Nunes and Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), is looking at whether there was a conflict of interest because of accusations that Russians funneled money into the Clinton Foundation during the time of the deal. Hillary Clinton was secretary of state at the time.
Now if you were a truly cynical person, you might think this is a totally bogus piece of right wing rat-fuckery. You might think this is going to be the BIG LIE to end all BIG LIES. You might see this as a desperate attempt to derail Mueller’s investigation into the Russian interference with the election and whatever the trail leads to. You might see this as a blatant perversion of the oversight role of Congress for purely partisan purposes. You might see this as the end game of the long GOP descent into outright Fascism. You might see this as the thing that will finally tear this country apart.
Or maybe you’re just woke.
This has been building for weeks in the fever swamps of the Right Wing. Sean Hannity has been pushing it as hard as he can. There’s a whole cottage industry of ‘authors’ and ‘journalists’ who have been following this story ‘the liberal media has been ignoring’. The usual suspects are all over this; the mighty Wurlitzer of the right wing media empire is tuning up to go full bore on this.
If you think our institutions have been under stress lately, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Democrats have to be united in condemning this for what it is, and must refuse to give it any shred of credibility. They must resist any attempts by legitimate media to paint this as anything but what it is — character assassination and an attack on the very foundations of our democracy. Any Democrats who sit on the two committees should participate in the opening of these hearings just long enough to stand en masse — and walk out. (No more schmoozing with your buddies across the aisle or dinners at the White House, Chuck. Nancy? Be prepared to kick Paul Ryan in his sanctimonious balls.)
This is going to be an open declaration of war on America by the Republicans if they go through with this. They’ve been easing into it for decades — and the slope is too slippery for them to go back. It’s them or us.
Trump poisons everything he touches — but the rot was always there.
