OKAY… now I am going through the Papadopoulos document. At the top it basically states that the prosecution and Papadopoulos agree that everything below is true, and is the basis for the charges against him and his guilty plea.
Here are good bits we haven’t already talked about.
Under the timeline, item 9. : On or about March 31 2016, Papadopoulos was at a “national security meeting” in DC which Trump also attended. Papadopoulos introduced himself and said he had Russian connections who could help arrange a meeting between Trump & Putin.
10. c. — the Russians were “all very excited” to have a good relationship with Trump.
13. April 25, Papadopoulos let a high campaign official know that Putin was inviting Trump to meet.
14. One of Papadopoulos’s Russia contacts told him that the Russians had “dirt” on Hillary Clintonn, in the form of “thousands of emails.”
15. More humorous than critical: Papadopoulis noted that this meeting would be “history-making.” I’ll say.
The meeting he was trying to arrange never actually happened. I get the impression from this all that Papadopoulis was a junior partner trying to become a senior one by getting valuable oppo research. Because we know another meeting did take place in which “dirt on Hillary” was discussed: the one on June 9 in Trump Tower.
Details of the false statements he made to the FBI: the main thrust of his lying was claiming that he had conversations with Russian contacts only prior to becoming involved in the campaign, whereas in fact he had many conversations while he was a foreign policy advisor for the campaign. He also falsely played the conversations down, saying one of his Russian contacts was a “nothing”, and he flat out lied saying he’d never been in contact with anyone from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when in fact he had.
That’s basically it, by my read.
Papadopoulis was arrested July 27 of this year, flying into Dulles.
