There are many myths around the American presidency. A particularly powerful one is that the office itself makes the person better in some way. The theory is that the weight of immense responsibility improves the person who wields it more responsible. Can we agree it’s time to lay that gentle myth to rest, at least when it comes to Donald Trump? We’ve always known who the real Trump is, but every since he became president we’ve shied away from acknowledging it:
There are at least a dozen women who’ve accused President Trump of sexually assaulting them. Judd Legum (of ThinkProgress) has done us a favor by reminding us of this fact.
Zervos has filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump. The president’s defense is that he has immunity from such lawsuits.
The White House confers many benefits on the occupant. Among them is the natural inclination of many Americans to believe our leaders are “good people”. The little lies we tell ourselves.
