Before arriving back in the United States from Asia, Donald Trump teased a “major statement from the @WhiteHouse upon my return to D.C.” Well, he made a statement, anyway. Major … not so much. Trump had nothing to say about the major issues of the day, including that his party’s nominee for Senate in Alabama having a history of sexually preying on teenage girls.
Trump opened by bragging about the supposed achievements of his first 10 months in office and then offered an extended and embroidered itinerary of his Asia trip, filled with bragging about how well he had been treated.
After Trump finished speaking, an MSNBC reporter’s immediate response was “I feel sorry for the wire reporters trying to find a lede,” so little of note did Trump say. If there is a lede? The fact that Trump, after repeatedly fumbling with his water bottle, walked out without responding as reporters called out questions about Roy Moore. That’s it. Half an hour of bragging punctuated by physical comedy and ending by dodging the major question of the day.
